Totalspan Marlborough is a full construction building company locally owned and operated by Darrell and Katrina Smith since 2011, having built an extensive range of buildings and successfully grown the franchise during this time. Darrell is a Licensed Building Practitioner and his building experience with Totalspan dates back to 2001. Katrina has previously worked in the building industry for 7 years. Darrell and Katrina are committed to exceptional service, quality workmanship and have the highest regard for health and safety so employ rather than contract their builders, who are provided with on-going regular training and development and are long serving employees.

We own a property 30 minutes east of Picton which we have been developing over the course of 2020. We wanted to construct a steel framed triple garage as the first building and given we had a good idea of what we wanted we only sought prices from two companies how we considered leaders in this building type. We liked the quick and efficient information flow from Katrina as we considered specification performances against our proximity to the sea and also the impact of Council conditions specific to our site. We had a simple and straight forward meeting with Darrell following his site visit to discuss the build practicalities of our site, focusing on access, weather variables, council requirements and local availability of fill material. On the basis of Katrina & Darrell's proactive responses and local build knowledge and experience, together with a good value for money price, we had total confidence that they were the right people for the job. After entering into contract with Totalspan Marlborough COVID-19 became a reality, but not a concern, as Katrina managed the factory fabrication slot so that we maintained maximum flexibility and Darrell investigated options to undertake the driveway and groundworks in winter. We feel that we were very lucky to be dealing with such a professional, open and honest company during this period. Rather than retract due to potential difficulties we extended the Totalspan Marlborough scope to incorporate the driveway and groundworks which involved stripping 250m3 of earth which their subcontractor beautifully shaped into bunds that now screen us from our access road thus enhancing the overall feel of the property. It was a brave decision by all Parties to undertake this work in winter but we are pleased that we trusted local knowledge and skilled operators to do what they do best. The subsequent erection and finishing of the garage was seamless and the end product in terms of quality and look is extremely impressive and far more than what we had expected. The overall process with Katrina, Darrell and their team from enquiry to completion has been straight forward and extremely enjoyable and we would, without reservation, recommend them to other prospective clients. We would also like to make mention that we have separately directly engaged several contractors from Totalspan Marlborough's supply chain to undertake other parts of our ongoing development. Those introductions by Darrell have been very beneficial to us.
